Peer into a Hippie Van
Willits, California
The Mendocino County Museum displays the expected Northern California pioneer-days items: stagecoaches, steam engines, logging mementos -- and an unexpected "hippie" van that visitors can peer into. The museum opened in 1972, so perhaps the van was left by original Mendocino County hippies -- as vital an artifact as the Pomo and Yuki baskets displayed elsewhere in the museum.
