World's Largest Trophy Cup
Seattle, Washington
Athletic Awards, a maker of custom cups, plaques, and other engraved items, occupies a one-story gold-painted building within sight of the Seattle Space Needle. In 1983 founder Monty Holmes Sr., apparently weary of the Needle, declared that "there should be a new landmark" in Seattle. So he built the World's Largest Trophy Cup out of wood and sheet metal, and anchored it to the roof of his business. It's still there and still a landmark, capacity unknown, although it's big enough to hold Santa's sleigh and reindeer every December holiday season.
