Soldiers Orphanage with Cellar Dungeon
Now the Soldier's National Museum, this building was for over a decade the National Soldiers Orphan Homestead in the years following the Civil War. It once held as many as 130 children. Look for creepy dioramas and, in the cellar dungeon, Johnny the wax dummy kid chained to a wall. Hollywood Square regular Charley Weaver, dead since 1974, narrates the story of Johnny's punishment.
The museum is a popular destination for paranormal investigators. In 2011, cable's Ghost Adventures gang spent the night in the basement goading cruel matron Rosa Carmichael, evil torturer of orphans, to get angry with them.
