Home of Superman Plaque

Field review by the editors.

Cleveland, Ohio

Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster were unpopular geeks when they were seniors at Glenville High School. But together they created Superman, and 71 years later Cleveland unveiled a historical marker honoring them in a small park outside the neighborhood where they'd both lived.

In 2011 the marker was stolen, not by Superman freaks but by thieves who thought they could sell it for scrap metal. When it was learned that the plaque was made of inexpensive aluminum, it was returned and re-anchored into the park with a base that even Superman would probably have difficultly ripping out of the ground.
