Puffy-Eyed JFK of the Dam
Heber Springs, Arkansas
The memorial overlooking Greer's Ferry Dam is one of many odd interpretations of JFK's head made in the years immediately following his assassination. The anonymous sculptor (possibly from Missouri) gave the President thin lips and a flattened face that looks as if it's pressing through a piece of Saran Wrap. The folds around his eyes are exaggerated, an older or more tired President seemingly depicted.
JFK stood on the spot occupied by the bronze head, to dedicate the Greers Ferry Dam, only a few weeks before he was killed.
The other speaker at the dam that day was the governor of Arkansas, who used his speech to attack JFK's program of civil rights for African Americans.
