Log Cabin Birthplace of Lincoln's Mom

Nancy Hanks was born in a log cabin in the hills of West Virginia in 1784. In 1933 a small rock monument with a bronze tablet was erected on the spot, claiming that Nancy was born in 1782 -- one of many discrepancies in her murky past. However, the birth site itself seems to have been fairly well established, and a replica of her imagined birth spot log cabin has been built across the road. The site is so off-the-beaten-path that visitors to the cabin have reported finding it unlocked, trusting whoever visits it to respect the rustic replica furnishings within.
