William Jennings Bryan Died Here
Dayton, Tennessee
Three-time presidential loser William Jennings Bryan made headlines in 1925 with the "Scopes Monkey Trial," when he successfully prosecuted a Tennessee teacher for the crime of teaching evolution. Unfortunately for Bryan, he didn't have long to savor his victory. Five days after the trial ended, only a few blocks from the courthouse, Bryan died of exhaustion. A small marker commemorates the spot.
