Nalcrest: Postal Worker Golden Years Utopia
Nalcrest, Florida
Built as a kind of self-contained, cul-de-sac retirement community for mailmen in the early 1960s. Nalcrest (the National Association of Letter Carriers at Rest) features a bronze statue of an old-fashioned mailman on the plaza of its "town square" -- which is more like a condo community center -- and a small mini-golf course whose first obstacle is a blue mailbox. Despite its relatively small size, Nalcrest merits its own, well-used post office -- and zip code.
Another post-people post-career advantage: dogs and other pets are not allowed.
Nalcrest is just west of the former community of Fedhaven, a senior utopia for federal employees established around the same time.
