Fish on a Bicycle.

Fish on a Bicycle

Field review by the editors.

University City, Missouri

Sculpted in 1998 by Steven Gregory, a human-size fish sports a squiggly smile as it appears to pedal a bicycle across the surface of Lewis Park pond. The statue was damaged in 2011, apparently when someone walked out and climbed on it after the pond froze over. But the neighborhood loves Fish on a Bike, and calls to the right people had the statue repaired by June.

The phrase "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" is attributed to Australian Irina Dunn via feminist Gloria Steinem, and "A man needs God like a fish needs a bicycle" is from an earlier wag.
