Modern Doctor Statue

According the plaque behind this small bronze statue, "Douglas W. Parker, Jr. M.D. (1949-1995) was an orthopedic surgeon who dreamed of creating the medical clinic now on this site."

Seen from behind (as we first did) the doctor appears to have unnaturally large shoulders, as if there are balloons beneath his lab coat. The statue, standing atop a rock wall, was completed in 1997 by local sculptor Deborah Gechter, and left us wondering why we don't see more community physicians immortalized along the highway.
