Grave of a Building
Paducah, Kentucky
Midway into Paducah's Mount Kenton Cemetery, seven stone columns from the city's old federal building serve as the building's tombstones (or at least as a historical monument).
A stone slab, set into the ground in front of the crescent of columns, reads: "These columns are from the old federal building in Paducah and completed in 1885, demolished in 1937. Stored at Mt. Kenton until 1989 when erected by cemetery through courtesy of Reynolds Monument Co." The Great Flood of January 1937 destroyed much of Paducah; the columns were salvaged. There are probably high water marks on them (as there are on other buildings in town that survived), but we didn't look close enough to see.
