California Surf Museum: Shark-Chomped Board
Oceanside, California
The California Surf Museum introduces its many visitors to surfing heritage, milestones, and lifestyles. The museum offers "A Brief History of Surfboards," showing the sport's technology evolution from wood to foam and fiberglass boards. In other exhibits, changed over time, boards are suspended from the ceiling, and alcoves chronicle different time periods with photos and memorabilia.
"Soul Surfer" Bethany Hamilton, a Hawaiian teenager in 2003, had her arm bitten off by a shark. Her shark-chomped board and swimsuit are on display as part of a long term exhibit.
