Unveiled on Memorial Day, 1961, a ramrod-straight pioneer mom stands tall, clutching her baby, probably on the lookout for anything suspicious. "She built a home for her family in the wilderness," reads an accompanying plaque, "She set an example for all of us by her perseverance." Sculpted by Wheeler Williams, paid for by a local businessman in honor of his pioneer mom.
