Gold Star Mother and Father Statues
Clinton, Ohio
Not as dramatic as the grieving Gold Star Mother statues in New Hampshire and New York, but still pretty sad. Seven feet tall, sculpted from granite by a gravestone company, she stands clutching a full-color folded American flag to her bosom. She faces a 125-ft. long black granite wall, inscribed with the names of all 3,400+ Ohioans killed in the Vietnam War, Beirut, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The statue and wall were dedicated on May 17, 2009.
Exactly five years later a matching Gold Star Father statue was added, supposedly the first of its kind anywhere.
