Home Alone House
Winnetka, Illinois
This three-story red brick suburban house is recognizable even without the snow and the art-directed green-and-red Christmas decor. It's from the John Hughes movie "Home Alone," a 1990 comedy hit. The exteriors were filmed in the neighborhood, and a few of the interiors as well, although most of the slapstick pratfalls and stunts were shot on a more expendable version of the home that Hughes had built in a gymnasium.
The property is not open for tours, and is used as a normal residence -- one with cars slowing on the street and snapping pics, and tourists posing for photos, cradling their faces with their mouths agape, outside the front yard fence.
The house sold for $1.6 million 2012, and the owners opened the house for a one-night-only Airbnb in December 2021.
