Flight 93 Abortion Billboard (Gone)
Stoystown, Pennsylvania
Three miles west of the entrance to the Flight 93 Memorial stands this eye-catching billboard, doing what a billboard is supposed to do: making drivers find the next wide spot in the highway to turn around and confirm what they thought they just saw.
A bright yellow passenger jet is a 3-D extrusion poking from the billboard and a rippled American flag; an equally dimensional statuette-like figure of Christ appears to balance the jet on his head.
The billboard makes several assertions: that the battling passengers on Flight 93 were "born hero's," that fetuses are "God's unborn hero's," and that abortion (the legal kind, we assume) is just as much of a terror as the 9/11 attacks. The billboard was erected in 2010, in time for the ninth anniversary of the nearby crash.
This billboard is shocking, in the manner of a sideshow poster, and it's a stark contrast to what waits ahead at the official Flight 93 National Memorial.
Regarding the spelling of "heroes," though... we had to give it some thought. We decided:
If Americans can't spell things however they please, the terrorists have already won.
