Copper Miner (Gone)

Field review by the editors.

Copperhill, Tennessee

The community of Copperhill was a center for copper mining for over a hundred years. To commemorate that now-gone industry a tree stump at the edge of town was chainsawed into a blocky, bearded copper miner with a hard hat and beady eyes. A hole in his left hand at one time held a miner's pick. An accompanying plaque on a rock says that the bearded miner is, "Dedicated to the Memory of Copper Mines, 1853-1987."
