Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon Village, Arizona
A benchmark of any legendary attraction -- Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower -- is measured in how many imitations trail in its wake. The Grand Canyon, despite its ponderous size, has copycats, too -- eager to bask in its name and attendant imagery (Grand Canyon of Mississippi, etc.). Some people hike to the bottom of the Canyon; most are content to pose family and friends at one of its many scenic overlooks, snap some pictures, and check it off their bucket list.
As a gauge of the Canyon's size: if you want to drive from South Rim Village to North Rim Village, it's 220 miles and roughly five hours.
