Prison Animal Farm
Stock Island, Florida
Open since the 1990s and affiliated with the Monroe County Detention Center, this claims to be the only prison-run animal farm in the U.S. Its ever-changing collection of confiscated animals reflects the exoticism Florida's climate and its pet-owning criminals -- two-toed sloths, lemurs, peacocks, Vietnamese potbellied pigs, a 13-foot albino Burmese python, a 600-pound hog, a llama -- as well as more typical ponies, goats, chickens, iguanas, alligators, rabbits, etc.
The animals are cared for by good-behavior prisoners wearing orange jumpsuits. If you ask, they may let you pet an alligator.
