SpaceX Dragon Rocket Monument

Field review by the editors.

Hawthorne, California

The city of Hawthorne was once Northrop Grumman's turf, but now its largest aerospace employer is SpaceX. On April 14, 2014, the mayor was on hand to unveil this monument to Hawthorne's new coolest corporate citizen: a 25-foot-long, two-ton replica of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy, the world's most powerful rocket. Perched on a pole, titled at a 45 degree angle as if lifting off, the rocket rises 37 feet high. At night its thrusters glow red, and the Dragon capsule at its apex is bathed in green.
