Blue Human Condition.

The Orgy Statue (Gone)

Field review by the editors.

Jackson, Michigan

Officially titled "Blue Human Condition," but unofficially renamed "The Orgy Statue" by critics and complainers within hours of its unveiling on April 21, 2014, in the town of Adrian, next to town hall. Terrified local politicians immediately threw a tarp over it and said it would be banished. They later backed down and moved it to Yew Park, a more obscure public spot a few blocks away.

Sculptor Mark Chatterley said he never meant the androgynous figures in the sculpture to controversial; if he had, he would have done a better job of it. The work was created as part of Adrian's Art Discovery public art program.

The Orgy Statue was removed in June 2015 and displayed in Jackson, next to a museum parking lot. It was returned to the artist in 2017, and may eventually turn up again somewhere else.
