Historic Bonnie and Clyde Gas Station
Gibsland, Louisiana
In a time of instant communication, it's sobering to recall the slower pace of 1934. After a posse had pumped 130 bullets into Bonnie and Clyde, and after taking some time to make sure that they were, in fact, dead, head lawman Frank Hamer drove the eight miles back into town, found a gas station with an outdoor pay phone, and called his boss to let him know.
A plaque on the outside wall of the long-abandoned gas station marks the spot. "The real story," the plaque declares, "will live forever!"
