Black Bear Statue
Dubois, Wyoming
The Black Bear Inn promises "S'Mores Nightly" on its sign. We'd passed through town after dusk, with barely time to snap pics of their giant bear statue. The fiberglass black bear stands on all fours, mouth open in menacing roar. One manufactured from the same fiberglass mold stands at Red's Big Bear Lodge in Winter, Wisconsin.
A Black Bear Inn employee offered to take our photo (which helped us later estimate the statue at ~11 ft. tall and ~25 ft. long). We told her we needed to be in Idaho that night, and she looked at us with alarm. "Be careful driving! Elk are everywhere. Three of our guests nearly got killed."
The next two hours of navigating Wyoming's unlit highways were uneventful yet terrifying.
