Tina Turner Museum
Brownsville, Tennessee
The world's only museum to Tina Turner, self-described "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll," is in the historic blacks-only one-room schoolhouse she attended as a child.
Inside the former Flagg Grove School, which was in use until the 1960s, visitors can now see examples of Tina's flashy stage outfits (including one of her glittery miniskirts), several of her gold and platinum records, and a lot of photos. Tina worked with the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center to provide the video and audio commentary seen and heard in the free museum, as well as donating the exhibits.
The school stood in Nutbush, Tina's nearby home town, before it was moved to this site in 2012. After two years of restoration, it opened to the public on Sept. 26, 2014. Though Tina didn't get to the dedication, several of her former classmates attended the opening.
