Boy and the Boot (hospital)
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans has had several Boy and the Boot statues, at various spots, over the years. One stood in a fountain outside the Miliken Memorial Hospital for Children. It was destroyed in 1961 -- only the boot survived -- but its memory lingered. In 1985 the new Children's Hospital bought another Boy and the Boot, this one from an antiques auction, previously owned by someone in Danville, Illinois, where it had been since 1933. The new(er) Boy now stands as the fountain centerpiece of the hospital's outdoor "Tranquility Garden," his dripping boot apparently a source of inspiration to the kids.
