Play Poker with Doc Holliday
Dodge City, Kansas
Doc Holliday (of Gunfight at the O.K. Corral fame) was a town marshall and dentist in Dodge City's Wild West heyday -- it's where he got his nicknamed "Doc" -- who had a reputation for gambling and shooting people. In April 2015 the town erected an outdoor life-size bronze statue of Doc sitting at a poker table with cards, money, and booze. Empty seats encourage visitors, but Doc is reaching for his six-shooter, apparently unhappy with the person on the other side of the table. His steely-eyed stare, rendered in bronze, is likely the last thing the other poker payer will ever see.
The statue was sculpted by Janet Zoble, who also created a bronze Wyatt Earp on the next block. Earp and Holliday became pals when Holliday prevented some angry cowboys from killing Earp in a Dodge City saloon.
