Hatfield-McCoy Park
McCarr, Kentucky
You know that times have mellowed in this part of Kentucky when a kids' playground park is named for the murderous Hatfield-McCoy feud. We especially enjoyed the park sign's artwork by Peggy Sullivan, who in June 2008 painted portraits of clan leaders "Devil Anse" Hatfield and Randolph McCoy.
We don't know if it was intentional, but the portraits on the west side of the sign are more lopsided and evil-looking than those on the east side. Maybe this suggests that both men had their good and bad sides, or maybe Peggy was just tired.
