Statue of Neptune

Field review by the editors.

Cape Charles, Virginia

Although seven feet tall, this serious-faced King of the Sea is actually a relatively small prototype of a much larger Neptune that was unveiled in Virginia Beach in 2005 (That version is 34 feet tall and weighs 12.5 tons). Sculptor Paul DiPasquale kept this original in storage for years until it was rescued from oblivion and unveiled along the Cape Charles boardwalk on June 13, 2015.

The town views it not only as appropriate art for its waterfront, but also as a handy directional aid. "The bed and breakfast is three blocks south of Neptune," etc.
