World's Largest Raspberry
Hopkins, Minnesota
Unveiled on July 8, 2017, as a part of Hopkins' kickoff for its 83rd annual Raspberry Festival. 83 years? What took the town so long to build this?
In fact, even though Hopkins proclaims itself the Raspberry Capital of the United States, the giant fruit wasn't the vision of town officials, but of local doctor Pete L'Allier, who had it erected in front of the the Hopkins "wellness center" (Raspberries are a healthy snack).
Built by sculptor Ben Janssens from Minneapolis (which has its own giant fruit), the raspberry weighs a half-ton. It hangs from a 22-foot-tall stylized steel vine that looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie, which is not a bad thing.
