Goon With Top Hat

We drove down to see the Goon on Sunday and he wasn't there. We called on Monday and discovered that he is currently being restored. No timetable was given.

Goon in a Top Hat - off limits.

Found this little guy and almost missed him. So cute and am glad that my sister and I found him. He's right on top of the auto shop. The side of the shop that he is on is guarded by a fence and two chows, so I don't recommend going too close to it!

That's a bit unwelcoming of the Goon.

The previous poster is correct in saying this "attraction" is in the middle of nowhere. Even our GPS had some trouble locating it until we looked at the Intersection screen.

Well worth skipping. Time and weather has taken its toll on this little guy -- he is small, faded and with peeling paint. The day after we left Kenly a tornado hit the town. Although I don't think this address was affected, the severe storm couldn't have done him any good.

Goon with a Top Hat

OK, I read the article on the Goon in a Top Hat and had to see it, so my wife and I set out to find it.

First of all, it is out in the middle of nowhere. It sits on the corner of Donnie's Corvette Specialist Building. It is kind of a scary place....lol. There is a fence around the corner of the building that the Goon stands on with a "Beware of Dog" sign on it. There are also pieces and parts of countless Corvettes and Heaven only knows what other kinds of cars. So we pull up to the building and I get out (my wife refused to get out) and I was met by someone (I am assuming it was Donnie). He did not look too inviting and didn't look like he took kindly to my type in those parts (my type being someone from out-of-state).

Anyway, I asked him if he would mind if I took a picture of his goon. At that point I got a big grin from him and he was all too happy to let me take pictures.

The building and goon seem to be run down a little and in need of a paint job, but he still stands there, naked and happy about it.
