Waveland - Clermont Harbor, Mississippi - Jubilee Casino Alligator Sign

I live about 10 miles from the old Jubilee Casino sign. Its been used as a landmark for years. It was fully intact after the storm. We were very disappointed that it was taken down and changed due to a new casino replacing the old one. The new sign is for the Silver Slipper Casino. We lost so many of our buildings (my entire town of Pearlington, MS) that I felt they should have kept it standing. [PearlGirl, 01/15/2008]

Casino Sign dismantled. Waveland, Mississippi - Abandoned Casino Sign

Post Katrina Update: It appears that the abandoned casino sign located west of Waveland was intentionally dismantled at some point, possibly as a precaution before Hurricane Katrina struck. The sign now lies in sections near the base of the supports. [Carl McCaskey, 06/21/2006]

Gator casino sign. Waveland, Mississippi - Abandoned Casino Sign

This is an abandoned casino advertising sign next to the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 90 about 3 miles west of Waveland, MS in the countryside. The sign looks to have been in disuse and disrepair for several years. I showed pictures I took to my inlaws who live in nearby Gulfport and they could not recall what defunct casino used this sign. Update - April 6, 2005: After some research, I found out the history of this sign. It was created to advertise the Jubilee Casino located at the end of the road (Lakeshore Road) that intersects U.S. Highway 90. Take that road south all the way until it ends at South Beach Boulevard and you will see a fenced-off area with a riverboat on the water to your right. That is the Jubilee Casino. Apparently when casinos were initially legalized in Mississippi all were in the form of old-style riverboats (the laws on Mississippi casinos require that the casino portion of the propert be on or over water). This one had a lousy location and closed within only a few months after it opened. [Carl McCaskey, 03/19/2005]
