Bigfoot Discovery Museum

Fun location, especially if you're a Bigfoot fan like my boyfriend. The owner/curator is very passionate about his collection and research. Free admission, but small donations ($2-$5) are encouraged and worth it especially if you get to talk to him. If you're lucky, maybe he will show you his own video footage!

My kids and I spent a fascinating hour and a half with Mike. He had pictures, video, bones, teeth and poop from a Sasquatch! Best of all, he had great stories. Come with an open mind, ask a ton of questions and enjoy!

The first room contains a great display of pop culture Bigfootiana, ranging from Bigfoot action figures to tabloid newspaper headlines. The second room presents a more serious look at the history of Bigfoot sightings.

The genial proprietor is happy to bend your ear with tales of encounters with the elusive creature, and make no mistake, is a firm believer in the existence of Bigfoot.

Out the back door is an outdoor display case containing plaster casts of Bigfoot tracks, and a small shed contains an enormous full-size model of Bigfoot himself. No admission charge, but donations gratefully accepted.

Founder Michael Rugg says that he saw Bigfoot as a child while camping with his family in northern California in 1950. The memory lay dormant for 20 years. He opened the museum in 2004.

Didn't get to visit it since it was closed the days I was there, but it looked interesting. The proprietors are convinced that the famous Paterson/Gimlin film of a northwestern bigfoot is authentic. Just north of Santa Cruz amongst the redwoods.
