Golden Horse Statue Along Blackstone Ave. in Fresno there is a comic landmark that has stood erect for some years now. Owned by the Cutting family, it marks the location of a Western clothing store named the Golden Horse. Although that establishment rode west a few years back, the store persists under Cutting ownership and a different name. The life-sized fiberglass stallion is gold and white as the photo shows.
Of course, what makes the equine statue so remarkable (and the subject of much humor over the years) is its generous, though truncated, endowment, clearly seen by drivers on Blackstone. [Blake H. Lindsey, 05/31/2005]
