Gas (Iola Area), Kansas -
The World's Largest "Gas Kan" Water Tower

This suburban area (with Country Club golf course) located east of Iola, Kansas, was named for the numerous, now exhausted, natural gas fields that the area once boasted. The residents still enjoy the town's name as it proclaims GAS KAN on its water tower which has come to be known as the World's largest GAS KAN. Unfortunately, it appears that the old sign advising travelers that they have exited the community -- "You've just passed Gas" -- no longer stands.
