World Record Catfish

An Illinois man caught a 124-lb. catfish in the Mississippi River near Alton (Home of Robert Wadlow, World's Largest Man) on May 22, 2005. Newspapers soon reported the world record catch by 33 year old Tim Pruitt, showing photos of the proud angler hefting the still living 58-inch fish across his chest. The catfish was quickly assigned a spot in the giant tank at the Cabela's Outfitter store in Kansas City. On the way to Cabela's, the catfish croaked, perhaps from trauma, or too much time in the spotlight of fame.

The catfish will still find a home at Cabela's, though as a mounted replica rather than as living attraction. [Roadsideamerica.com Team, 06/01/2005]
