Bedrock City

The end for Bedrock City? Not so fast! The new owners now say that they plan to keep Bedrock City open through 2019, and its transformation into a raptor attraction -- and the removal of the Flintstones statues and houses -- won't begin until 2020.

The final changeover isn't scheduled, they say, until 2025.

Bedrock City

It's extinction for Fred, Barney, and the gang at Bedrock City! After nearly 50 years of operation, the cartoon-based tourist attraction is as dead as a pterodactyl, to be replaced by Raptor Ranch. The new owner of the property says that visitors will still be able to slide down the brontosaurus, and that the statues of the saber-tooth cat and woolly mammoth will be incorporated into a children's playground. Definitely dated, definitely kitschy, and definitely worth a stop. Only $5 to get in to the city of Bedrock, and worth every penny! Not much to do, except take loads of photos. It does have a very post-apocalyptic vibe, but that just seems to add to the randomness of it all. If you're on your way to the Grand Canyon, stop for 30 minutes and take it all in.

Even if you don't pay admission and go in the back, it is worth a look. Has a great collection of everything Flintstones in the gift shop.

Flintstones Bedrock City

The perfect mix of kitsch and nostalgia. A ghost of itself, yet the minimal effort meant to upkeep it creates an entirely surreal experience. The scope and scale of the initial effort is surprising, especially against the vast, empty backdrop and Arizona sky. Alas, mother time has taken its toll, but the original dream shines through to warm your heart.
