Craters of the Moon
GPS is not accurate. The visitor center is easily accessible right off Hwy 26/20. Take the time to hike Inferno Cone. It's surreal. Also, the spatter cone on the right as you face them in the parking lot is better -- it has snow at the bottom even on a 90+ degree summer day.
Practical: bring a water bottle and closed toe walking shoes. Also, if your kids are into the Junior Ranger program, they can earn up to four badges/patches here. We like to camp but the camping in the lava looked intense. We were glad we booked a hotel room a little further on in our journey.
