Love this!! Super fun. There is actually a gift shop and museum close by! The hubby and I thought it was well worth the pit stop!
[Jenny, 01/14/2013]We recommend a visit to the museum, which is stuffed to the ceiling with Superman memorabilia.

Great tradition. I have watched my daughter grow up with Superman's boots.

Superman is still standing and looking great! Also have several cut-out "photo" opportunities around the area.
[Kim V, 12/03/2010]Superman Statue, Square and Museum
The Superman statue is pretty great, and the "S" he stands on really makes it nice. We had fun taking pictures and didn't have to wait in line (on a Sunday morning). Superman Square has the statue, and a bunch of places you can pretend you're Superman or Supergirl, plus great artwork around the museum building.
The Super Museum is $5 to get into, and you also can use the ticket to go to the Americana Hollywood Museum in town. The Super Museum is neat, but not organized. Some items are labeled and others leave you wondering. There are some great pieces though, and it's worth it if you're a super-fan. There is a room dedicated to Supergirl as well as a room dedicated to Lois and Clark, the TV series (some Smallville items are on display, too). We bought some Kryptonite, which was a fun and inexpensive souvenir.
The town of Metropolis itself was a huge disappointment. While nice and quiet, it didn't devote itself to being Superman's hometown -- not a lot of businesses were involved in making this a great tourist spot (such as Roswell, NM does). The Americana Hollywood Museum is not much of a museum at all, so much as a gathering of odds and ends of things. There are rooms dedicated to certain topics (like one to Angelina Jolie, begging the question why) but nothing is LABELED or in any chronological order.
