Utica, Illinois - Tree Trunk-Carved Indian Head There is another of Peter Toth's famed Indian head carvings located at the Starved Rock Lodge and Conference Center in Utica, Illinois. The site is home to many other carved tree trunks, in the shapes of bears, birds, raccoons and other woodland creatures. Starved Rock State Park and the nearby Matthiessen State park have a lot to offer, including several hiking trails with absolutely gorgeous scenery.

Directions: I-80 Eastbound and Westbound: Get off at exit #81 (Rt.178, Utica). Go south 3 miles on Rt. 178 and follow the signs into the Park.
