Grants Pass, Oregon - Community Art Project - Bears Bat Bears and Robin Bears and Butterfly Bears! For the last few years the town of Grants Pass has commissioned local artists to paint large fiberglass statues. After displaying them for the summer season, some of them are auctioned off and placed permanently at area locations. They did bears for three years, and dog houses one year, and for 2006 they will be doing eagles. I talked to several people and was only able to find a few sets of statues.
Bat Bear and the Boy Wonder are under a cover at the Wild River Inn, The Butterfly Bears are Inside the lobby. The butterflies have wings and antennae. The big bear is over 6 feet tall and the little guy is about 3 feet. There is also a Grants Pass bear at the feet of the caveman, across the street. [Jody Day, 04/08/2006]
