Visitor Tips and News About Princess Burial Mound
One mile east of Lake Mills is Aztalan. The Aztalan Museum has behind it the "Princess Mound." She was buried on top of white sand, and there were about 1,900 beads in her grave. Some of these beads are from salt water. There is a stone on top of the grave.[Steven Steigerwald, 04/16/2006]
The skeleton of the princess, discovered in 1919, was exhumed and displayed in the Milwaukee Public Museum for years. When the original remains fell apart, they substituted a male skeleton. Whatever is left today is in storage and no longer on display.
