Apparently Jake has passed away. We stopped at the local post office to see what was up with the old building and the very nice postal worker explained to us that Jake had died...and she didn't know what they had done with all his stuff.
[Jen & Chuck, 02/24/2010]Wardell, Missouri is a town with population of about 280. Jake Fisher lives and works in an old drug store on main street of Wardell which he's converted into a museum of oddities, many of his own invention. He has hung a sign outside his drugstore/museum/home which reads "Wardell Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Information."
A favorite attraction inside is what Jake refers to as the "World's Only Otay Meter," which is designed to gauge a person's "okay-ness." If you're lucky, he'll even show you his propeller-assisted "airbike!"
Other items of interest are Jake's extensive collection of photographs of his world travels -- he persuades street vendors to allow him to pose as the operator of the street vendor's stand, and has the vendor photograph him. He's a true eccentric and a real nice fellow.
