Benbrook, Texas - Vernon Castle Airplane Crash Site Memorial The memorial marks the spot where Vernon Castle's plane crashed in 1918. Vernon Castle was a nightclub dancer who performed in silent movies. He was also a pilot in World War I. Vernon died on Feb 15, 1918, while a flight instructor at Camp Benbrook. It takes about 10 minutes to read the info on the roadside memorial.
