Benbrook, Texas - Giant Robot Playground It's a heavy metal robot park, also a good old time playground. In the older section, everything is made of metal and has numerous layers of thick paint. They have the classic lunar lander painted in mod colors, the giant bug eyed beetle, geodesic half dome monkey bars, the gratuitous human powered spinning wheel, and the greatest giant of the all....the Robot slide.
The robot slide has three levels. Climb in through the bottom to the first level which is very similiar to the holding cell that I was but in during spring break many, many years ago. The 2nd level is where you can access the arm slides, and the third level you can actually get into the command center of the robot. Unfortunately, the 3rd level has been closed off due to rust damage to the robots lower jaw. The park has been modernized with rubber tire mulch and also has a wooden fort structure that you see at many new parks.
I highly recommend, especially if you have kids. Also nearby is the Benbrook lake dam; many sea fossils can be found in the dried up spillway. The Vernon Castle Crash Site is about 6 blocks away. [Cory Lenger, 05/28/2006]
