Canton, Illinois - Painted Rock - High School Tradition

The Big Rock in front of a local high school is concreted to the front yard and has been painted over and over since the 1970s.

The story goes that a graduating student dumped the large rock in front of the school just before graduation as a prank. A tradition began of spray-painting the rock over the years. The school even picked up the rock and secured it in concrete as a more permanent resting place. [Nik Munster, 06/14/2006]
