Philo and the Walking Fool. Salt Lake City, Utah - Philo Farnsworth, TV Inventor

I'm walking across America and have hit several roadside attractions along the way. Once in Utah, I was anxious to see the statue of the beloved Philo Farnsworth, the man responsible for allowing Jerry Springer and Bill O'Reilly to be household names.

When I read the description on your site, I saw that there was no pic and the latest news was that the U.S. Capitol building was being renovated. But by the time I trudged my feet to SLC, the building was open for business (I could tell because there were at least 5 tourists milling about).

I strutted up the 3 flights of stairs and bonded with the cement replica for a full 5 minutes before heading off to see the 2-headed lamb across the street. [mark e. phillips, 10/13/2008]

[RA: We had a look ourselves in August -- the statue is moved around the building a bit, but a guard can usually direct visitors. BTW, Mark has dubbed himself "The Walking Fool."]

Salt Lake City, Utah - Statue of Philo Farnsworth, Inventor of TV

I recently traveled to SLC and really wanted to check out the statue of the Father of Television, Philo Farnsworth. It's in the Utah State Capital Building, reported in the UT-to-CA leg of your Symphony of Speed tour across the U.S. I was told by the Visitor's Bureau that the State Capital Building is closed to visitors until some time in 2007 due to renovations to make the building stronger in the event of a seismic event.
