Luray, Virginia - Scary Chicken Base - More Info I thought you guys might be interested to know a little more about these
chickens. They were most likely fighting cocks. That is why there was only
one chicken per barrel. They are bred for use in cock fights. Now these are
illegal, of course, and some people just raise these beautiful roosters to
win blue ribbons in the county fair (wink wink). If you drive any length of
time in Page County, you will see lots of chickens in crates, barrels, or
just running loose in yards.

Luray, Virginia - Scary Chicken Base Last weekend while driving on Rt. 340, north of Luray, Virginia, I passed an interesting farm on the left side of the road. The farm was filled with several rows of many oil barrels, painted white, lying on their sides which were actually the homes to several reddish-brown colored chickens. Some of the barrels had a single chicken standing on them, while other chickens were on the ground. An amazing sight and an innovative use of old metal barrels.
