Fort Sedgewick, Dances With Wolves Movie Set

At the Dances With Wolves movie set, Fort Sedgewick, both buildings remain, although the larger of the two, the stable, has collapsed in on itself. The other, which is the Fort, is in decent condition. Both are accessible and the site looks much like it did in the movie, but with some fencing. Both are covered in fiberglass made to look like mud/brick.

This is a really good stop if you are in the Pierre, SD area and well worth the trip of 31 miles NW of Pierre. The area getting to the site is beautiful grasslands. [Brian R. Miller, 07/25/2010]

Movie set from Dances with Wolves. Fort Sedgewick, Dances With Wolves Movie Set

Triple U Buffalo Ranch is home of Fort Sedgewick from the movie Dances with Wolves. It was difficult to find, but well worth it.

When I did find the ranch, which has three houses on it, I walked around and knocked on doors because nobody was in sight. The third house I tried at the ranch I opened the door and said hello. A voice came back and said "Come on in..." After ten minutes talking to a lady that lived on the ranch, I was directed out back and was told that Fort Sedgewick was just behind the trailer in the distance.

I went down to the Fort and found that it was constructed mostly of fiberglass made to look like wood. There was a lot of buffalo crap in the fort, as I assume that it is used as a bathroom stop for the herd at the ranch. [Bryan Hunt, 07/23/2006]
