Giant Roller Skate While still there, the skate is badly rotting at the heel and base and is starting to fall apart. Somebody save the skate!
[Sir, 04/25/2011]The skating rink is under new management and opened Feb. 06, 2009 for business. There are plans to repair the Giant Skate in the near future.
There is also Parks Flea Market located in the Dance Hall building on the same property.

Giant Roller Skate Visited in late October. The roller skate is still here, if a little worse for wear. I was expecting a fiberglass sculpture but was surprised to find it was wood construction with plaster and plywood skin. It's a sweet bit of road art. HUGO is emblazoned along the right side of the skate.
It stands along the road in a large parking lot of the former skating rink which is now a big flea market and Brooks Auction Transfer.

Giant Roller Skate The current photo of the Giant Roller Skate on RoadsideAmerica.com was taken in 1988 with our kids posing in front of the attraction. Recently, we stopped by with our grandkids, so we could pass the joy onto another generation. We noticed that the original "real" shoe lace and eyelets were removed and replaced with painted-on versions.
[Glenn and Rebecca Brown, 09/12/2007]The giant roller skate is still there, despite a change in management, although it is beginning to look the worse for wear, showing considerable paint cracking along at least one side.
