Unfortunately this attraction is now closed. You can still see the sign out front and the very top of one of the buildings on the hill but that's it. There are closed gates and no trespassing signs and the property is up for auction.
[Christine Campbell, 07/06/2010]Virginia City - Old West Town
Virginia City is an old west style "town" originally opened in the 1960s as Dry Gulch Junction. When the interstate opened, the tourist attraction died... for about twenty years. Now it's back and admission is free.
The town had fallen into disrepair but many renovations have turned things around. Features include the the standard old west jail along with an authentic old stone mill. One night a week they have "Cowboy Church" and there's bluegrass music on Friday nights. The second Saturday of each month brings shootouts music, crafts and concessions. You can also pan for gems (but that does have a fee). Just up the road is the Big Walker Lookout so be sure to visit both. The newest owner passed away and the entire town is now for sale.
